Charles Edwards, World Renowned Lighting Company

Charles Edwards is considered one of the leading designers and manufacturers of 19th and 20th Century inspired English, French and American lighting. Charles has developed a recognizable style in his design collection, which are regularly featured in notable publications including Architectural Digest, Veranda, World of Interiors, and House & Garden.

 Antiques Dealer Turned Lighting Manufacturer

Charles Edwards has been an antiques dealer since leaving university. He opened his first shop in the late 1960’s in Abingdon Road, famous for having previously been the home of the 1960’s clothes shop ‘Biba’. He then moved to Notting Hill Gate and a shop in Rabbit Row, where he continued to build up a reputation for the unusual.

From decorative objects to furniture and lighting this became a destination for some America and London’s leading interior designers, he was among a group antiques dealers to get a reputation for quirky and decorative items.

Charles then moved out of London and had a shop in Northamptonshire for four years before returning to London and opening his shop at 582 King’s Road in 1987. At this time, this part of the King’s Road was recognised as one of the main areas for antiques shops in London.

One of Charles great loves is antique lighting, especially antique lanterns. A conversation with renowned designer David Easton changed the course of the business when Charles agreed to replicate one of his lanterns, leading to the design and manufacture side of the business.

Today Charles Edwards boasts an exclusive collection of over 400 designs. He continues to expand by working closely with design professionals, offering custom sizing on his entire range and a bespoke service.
