Armed with a degree in architecture from Columbia University, Nick Olsen shifted career paths after reading about decorator Miles Redd in a fashion magazine. Hired to assist Redd fresh out of college, he learned the business of design while transforming his own studio apartment with color, personal treasures and ingenuity. That space landed on the cover of Domino magazine in 2006.
Having launched his own firm in early 2010, Nick creates comfortable interiors that nod to the past while maintaining a sense of humor and whimsy. He mixes antiques and modern artwork with signature élan, never one to shy from bold color, pattern, or an overscale gesture. Recent projects include a Greek Revival townhouse in Brooklyn Heights, a family’s swank Upper East Side apartment in a Peter Marino-designed building, and a new shingle style waterfront home in Locust Valley, New York.
Nick was named a Top 10 “New Traditionalist” by the editors of Traditional Home, and in addition to Domino his work has been featured in House Beautiful, British Homes & Gardens, Veranda, and the Wall Street Journal. In August 2013 one of Nick’s first decorating projects made the cover of The World of Interiors. He currently resides in downtown Manhattan and keeps coffee table books as pets.

Ponder Nick’s quote passed down from Bunny Williams to his former boss Miles Redd; then to him, “Buy the best and you only cry once”.
