As Founder, President, and CEO of the Ruby Network (Ruby Lane, RubyLUX, Real or Repro), Tom Johnson is a veteran of the technology industry and an e-commerce innovator whose career spans 30 years. A skilled programmer with keen business savvy, his career began with a classic IBM assignment in Tokyo, Japan where he worked closely with clients such as Nissan, Sony, Toyota, and Honda followed by work in Germany, London, and Detroit.
A love of collecting 1950’s California pottery led to his vision of a unique website catering to antiques and collectibles. Combining his passion for vintage with his high-tech background, Tom created Ruby Lane in 1998 and named the site in honor of his mother Ruby.
A visionary and phenomenon in today’s Internet world, Tom has defied the frenzy of venture capital backed start-ups by organically building several groundbreaking platforms. His dedication, drive, and vision have kept Ruby Lane at the forefront of ecommerce where it stands as the world’s largest curated marketplace for vintage and antiques.
Tom graduated with top honors from the University of Minnesota, with a B.S. in Computer Science, with a Minor degree in Mathematics and Music. He splits his time between New York City, San Francisco, and Naples, Florida with his husband and their dog Cody.
