Episode 265: Susan Brunstrum


Susan Brunstrum is founder and principal of award-winning Sweet Peas Design, which she launched 13 years ago in Libertyville as a one-woman firm.

Today Sweet Peas Design is a full-service studio with a staff of six in downtown Libertyville and a branch office in Chicago.

Susan’s versatile LivableLuxe™ style is known for its sophisticated  blend of relaxed comfort and luxurious refinement. She considers it “the little black dress of design”™ – custom tailored for each client and perfect no matter what the occasion.

Susan is on the board of Design Trust Ltd., an exclusive, New York-based think-tank of interior designers drawn from across the country to advance the design profession as a whole. She is allied with ASID, is a member of Chicago’s River North Design District and a Career Advisory Committee member for Harper College’s Interior Design program.

Susan has been featured on NBC/LXTV’s  “George to the Rescue” and  “Open House,” on WGN and on CLTV’s “Bring It Home” program. Her work has been published in numerous national and local magazines and newspapers, including Modern Luxury Interiors Chicago, Kitchen + Bath Makeovers, Trends Kitchens, Trends Bathrooms, Color Made Easy, The Daily Herald, Crain’s Chicago Business  and Chicago Sun-Times’ magazine, Splash. She has been interviewed for several design-related podcasts as well.

Susan and her team won a 2016 and 2015 ASID Illinois “Design Excellence Award,”  the “Best Living Space 2014” from Modern Luxury Interiors Chicago and two regional Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence in 2015 and 2016, and she has been invited twice to participate in the prestigious Lake Forest Showhouse. She also won an  AABE 2016 Small Business award from the Daily Herald’s Business Ledger

On a personal note – Susan has two grown children and lives in Chicago where she enjoys exploring the city’s best new restaurants, art galleries and shops. She loves fashion and gathering fresh design inspiration during her travels.
