With three successful professional careers in the magazine, advertising and design world to his credit, Rick Gillette, known for his elegant taste and forward thinking, has moved to the upstate boomtown of Hudson, New York. Inspired by Hudsonʼs historic architecture, a growing number of stylish design shops featuring a wide variety of antiques and mid-century furnishings, local artisan wares, fine art galleries and superstar chefs, Gillette sensed it was “a design hub primed for something new.”
With the opening of his 3,000-square-foot FRG OBJECTS & DESIGN / ART showroom, the quality and range of home furnishings in Hudson has entered a new dimension of style. Rick Gillette’s skill is evident in his innovative, re-imagined vintage furniture shown in expertly colored lacquer, stained wood and powder coated metal finishes. The pieces are blue-chip reincarnations of what had been neglected, though beautifully boned, mid-century furniture. His found pieces such as a 1960s bedroom set, a Danish dining table set, a massive combination sideboard/bar, a variety of upholstered furniture and vintage lamps have been transformed into glamorous one-of-a-kind collectibles.
Rick Gillette has also introduced his timelessly styled lighting collection, inspired by the best in iconic European and American design. The Evocative series includes floor lamps, sconces and ceiling fixtures, available in a variety of painted and metal finishes, custom made to suit each client’s specifications.
Beautiful 20th and 21st century objects in terra cotta, ceramic and glass share the vast airy gallery with Hudson artist Kerry MacBride’s Home Collection of exquisite onyx and travertine lamps and accessories. If that weren’t enough there is fine art, exceptional paintings, prints, photography, and sculpture by established and emerging artists, all curated through the exacting vision of Rick Gillette.
Whether working with a client on a single purchase, a beautifully curated interior decor, consulting on a commercial or residential project, or designing an extensive renovation, FRG OBJECTS & DESIGN / ART, with designer Rick Gillette at the helm, is open for business.
