Patti Carpenter is an award winning Creative Director in globally sourced home accents, clothing, personal accessories and gifts with extensive experience in product design and development, merchandising, and color + trend forecasting. She has received U.S. presidential recognition for domestic and international expertise in artisan development, small producer and entrepreneur training, and economic development. She has proven successes in international sourcing and creating innovative products that add revenue and enhance the image of brands including Bloomingdales, Neiman Marcus, Timberland, The Limited Corporation, Cynthia Rowley, Peter Max and Ralph Lauren.
Ms. Carpenter is currently an International Product Development and Design Consultant with her own firm for the past 15 years. She divides her time between working in the world of commercial design for such clients as The Phillips Collection, Crate & Barrel, Cliff Young, ABC Carpet & Home, and Sferra, and working with artisans on behalf of international government agencies, export promotion counsels, USAID and non-profit organizations such as Aid to Artisans, providing assessment, market linkages and training of SME’s and individual artisans. She has traveled to 54 countries around the globe.
As an international expert in Color + Trend forecasting for the Home Décor, Personal Accessories, and Gifts markets, Patti is now a Global Trend Ambassador for the Americas Mart in Atlanta and the face of Color + Trend for Maison & Objet in America. She has spoken on Color + Trend at the Printsouce, Indigo, SURETEX, and Premiere Vision shows, the Dallas Market, High Point, Atlanta Americas Mart, Donegar Group Color Symposiums, and Maison & Objet, as well as the USAID program for product development in Egypt, the Tunisian American Chamber of Commerce Carthage Handcraft Expo in Tunis, the first Design Congress of Guatemala, and the Design Indaba in South Africa. She has written on color + trend for LDB Magazine, Furniture World, Giftwear News, Intertexile in Shanghai and The Color Marketing Group and works with commercial clients that include Takasago International, Yankee Candle, Proctor & Gamble, Sferra, ABC Carpet and Home, Cliff Young, Robert Allen, Donna Karan Urban Zen, and Ralph Lauren as well as trade organizations that include IFDA, IDS and ART.
She lectures on Design, Color + Trends at colleges and universities internationally including F.I.T., Pratt, Parsons, RISD, LIM, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), NYU, The Landivar College of Art and Design in Guatemala and the American University of Paris, France.
Her work has been featured in in Metropolitan Home, O The Oprah Magazine, Essence, Anthology, Lucky, Better Homes and Gardens, Real Simple, and Elle Décor Magazine, as well as in catalogues including Gumps, Sundance, Dean & Deluca, Viva Terra, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales.
She has been awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award from George Bush in both 2005 and 2006 and from Barak Obama in 2012. She is a “Stylemaker” in the HistoryMakers collection and has been inducted into the Library of Congress
