Listen to this episode

Charles Hilton Architects is a 16-person Greenwich, Connecticut based design firm specializing in the finest quality custom residential architecture, sustainable design and waterfront projects. Over the past 26 years, Charles Hilton¹s name has become synonymous with the highest quality design and exceptional personal service. The firm has earned a reputation for producing traditionally inspired residences, landscape features and architectural interiors that are beautiful, practical and fit harmoniously in their environment. They have never sought to develop a signature style, choosing rather to pursue a more pluralistic approach to design. Project designs build on a deep knowledge and appreciation of the traditional architectural principals and the use of well-crafted materials while seamlessly integrating the modern technologies today¹s sophisticated clients expect.

The firm is committed to incorporating green strategies into projects by providing practical options that marry together a commitment to the environment and traditionally styled architecture. Work has included energy-efficient windows and doors, geothermal heating and cooling, co-generation of electricity and heat, LED lighting, home automation systems, solar panels and green roofs.

Charles Hilton Architects¹ designs reflect the unique personalities of their owners, the attributes of their specific setting and the historical context in which they are based. The results are designs that are simultaneously responsive to their place and time and that will serve their inhabitants for generations to come. The firm¹s work has been recognized by numerous award committees, peer groups and both regional and national publications.

Charles Hilton received his formal architectural education at The Pennsylvania State University. During his matriculation he studied abroad at the Technische Universitat Darmstadt, in Darmstadt, Germany, traveling extensively throughout western Europe and formulating his ideas about the role of classical architecture in the modern world. Charles graduated with Distinction in 1988 with a Bachelor of Architecture. After graduation, he took a position in Greenwich, Connecticut as a designer, until co-founding Hilton-VanderHorn Architects in 1991.

The firm¹s work reflected a broad variety of traditional architectural styles. Over its 22-year history, the firm had over 250 built projects to its credit. In April of 2013, Charles went on to launch his solo venture, Charles Hilton Architects. Charles¹s work spans across the United States, although its concentration has always been on high-end residential projects in Fairfield County, Connecticut and Westchester County, New York.

Charles¹s work has been recognized with professional, trade association and shelter publication design awards. His work is published regularly in regional and national publications focusing on such topics as traditional residential design, waterfront homes, green design and historic preservation. Mr. Hilton is a lecturer and has been featured in recent years in two new TV series. Charles holds NCARB accreditation, is a licensed Interior Designer and is a member of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America.
